call for papers
Plant Signaling & Behavior will be a peer-reviewed journal available both in print and online which will publish significant advances on all aspects of plant biology related to topics directly or indirectly linked to the field of plant signaling and behavior. This multidisciplinary journal will publish original research articles, commentaries, and reviews covering the latest aspects of molecular, biological, physiological, electrophysiological, and ecophysiological plant sciences. Moreover, manuscripts will be considered which cover all aspects of information acquisition, processing, learning and adaptation, especially as related to diverse environmental stresses.
Plant Signaling & Behavior will bring together research of diverse disciplines and subjects, ranging from molecules up to plant communities and plant interactions with other organisms. Attention will be focussed on biological processes at several levels of biological organization in which signaling and communication have central roles. These include:
  • Molecules and Organelles
  • Tissues and Organs
  • Signal Perception and Transduction
  • Signalling Complexes (Signalosomes)
  • Action Potentials and Hydraulic Signals
  • Integrative Plant Body and Physiology
  • Plant and Abiotic Environment
  • Plant and Biotic Environment
  • Information Acquisition and Processing
Plant Signaling & Behavior will be an important forum and ideal vehicle for experimental reports in the most competitive and emerging areas for the following reasons: Rapid response to presubmission inquiries, submission by e-mail, rapid review, special submission, rapid publication upon acceptance.
Papers will be published online within one week of acceptance. In the optimal scenario, the paper may be published the day following acceptance. Papers rejected from other top journals (e.g., Nature, Cell), if the authors choose, may be submitted with previous reviews and decision letters. This allows for the consideration of a paper without sending for additional review.
When a manuscript is submitted, the Editors assume that no similar paper has been or will be submitted for publication elsewhere. Further, it is understood that all authors listed on a manuscript have agreed to its submission. Upon acceptance, authors must transfer copyright to Landes Bioscience.
New manuscripts will undergo prompt evaluation by the associate editors. Associate editors(s) that will organize the review will be indicated on the published paper as monitoring editor(s) and will be co-responsible for published data. Authors will be notified within 5-7 days if their manuscript is accepted or rejected. Manuscripts accepted for review will be posted at the journal peer review site and data will undergo an in-depth review over a period which will vary (will typically take 2-3 weeks and will last no longer as than 3-4 months). Accepted papers will be made available on the journal website immediately as an E-publication ahead of print and will be assigned page numbers upon completion of an entire issue.
Each contribution will be rigorously vetted by at least two expert reviewers who are either members of the Editorial Board or are recruited by board members.
For original articles or short reports, reviewers will be asked to comment on the following aspects of the submitted manuscripts:
  • significance to the field;
  • study design;
  • quality of data;
  • quality of controls;
  • whether conclusions are justified;
  • whether the effects are meaningful;
  • whether the study is described clearly;
  • and to comment on the novelty of the work.
Final acceptance of all submitted manuscripts is a decision made solely by the Associate Editors assisted by other members of the Editorial Board and reviewers (selected by these handling associate editors). If a manuscript is believed not to meet the standards of the journal, is otherwise lacking in scientific rigor, or contains major deficiencies, the reviewers will attempt to provide constructive criticism to assist the authors in ultimately improving their work for publication, here or elsewhere. Manuscripts not invited for resubmission will not be reconsidered.
Type of Papers
  • Reviews
  • Addenda
  • Views and Commentaries
  • Perspectives
  • Original Articles
  • Short Communications
  • New Technologies/Plants as Biosensors
  • Meeting Reports
  • Book Reviews
If you have interesting data, an original hypothesis, or timely commentaries on significant developments related to the topics covered by the Plant Signaling & Behavior, please send your manuscript to one of the Editor-in-Chief or of Associate Editors. You will normally receive a reply within few days. If accepted, the paper will be put on the journal website in its manuscript version which will then undergo review process lasting from several days to several months. The final version, which will be published both in print and online, must have the same authors and titles, but may differ from the manuscript version in its content, as modified according to the reviewers suggestions.
