About Mobile Genetic Elements

In May of 2011 we launched Mobile Genetic Elements, the first international peer-reviewed journal of its kind to focus exclusively on all aspects of mobile genetic elements found throughout life.

Mobile Genetic Elements publishes the following types of papers:

• Reviews (mostly invited)
• Original Research Papers
• Brief Reports (Notes)
• Methods and Protocols
• Article Addenda
• Commentaries and Views/Letters to the Editor

Original Research papers will cover important topics related to all aspects of mobile genetic elements. Reviews will take several forms and will generally be invited. We realize new developments in methodology and techniques are an important resource for the research community. Therefore, a section of the journal will allow for the reporting of the latest developments in translational applications of mobile genetic elements to the study of biological systems. Finally addenda on any aspect of mobile genetic elements will be welcome.

• Intercellular transfer
• Transcriptional and translational regulation
• Evolution
• Cellular consequences of carriage
• Methods and protocols

Initially, we will publish bimonthly, incrementally increasing the frequency to 12 issues over several years. Each issue will appear in print and online. Submissions and peer-review will be rapid and handled online. The average time from submission to final decision (acceptance or rejection) for the current Landes Bioscience journals is one month. Once accepted, a paper is published online within three weeks.
