She has authored many important peer-reviewed papers, invited reviews and book chapters, and served as editor of ‘Microbial Pathogenesis and the Intestinal Epithelial Cell’. She serves as Associate Editor for other prestigious journals in the field of gastroenterology including Gastroenterology and American Journal of Physiology: Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology and has served on the Editorial Board of others. She has been invited to present her research at numerous national and international meetings including Gordon Conferences and has organized others. She has served on Study Sections for the National Institutes of Health and chaired the section of Gastrointestinal Mucosal Pathobiology for two years.

Dr. Hecht received her M.S. in Medical Microbiology from the University of Missouri, earned her M.D. from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota, and received her fellowship training in Gastroenterology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA.
