Srikumar Chellappan Named Moffitt Scientist of the Year 2007

The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute congratulates Srikumar Chellappan, Ph.D., a member of the Drug Discovery program, for being elected by his peers as Scientist of the Year 2007.
Chellappan graduated from the University of Kerala, India, in 1981 with a degree in zoology. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, in 1987 and his post-doctoral degree in molecular biology from Duke University Medical Center in 1991.
Since arriving at Moffitt in 2001, Chellappan has established himself as a productive and innovative scientist. He has more than 40 peer reviewed publications, including a recent publication in PNAS where Chellappan and his colleagues determined that nicotine affects the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs. He currently has two active grants and is a project leader on the recently funded Drug Discovery grant. His major research interest is to understand the mechanisms by which extra-cellular signals regulate the cell cycle machinery, and how a loss of this regulation leads to oncogenesis.
Chellappan will be recognized in June at a Moffitt reception to celebrate this honor.
