Adhesion Molecules - Targets for Melanoma Therapy? As illustrated on the cover image, metastatic melanoma cells strongly express the É¿3 integrin subunit. In this issue of Cancer Biology & Therapy, Watson-Hurst and Becker demonstrate by way of whole-genome and tissue microarray analyses that the cell adhesion molecules β3 integrin and N-cadherin are progression markers for melanoma, whereas MCAM is not. Equally important, the authors show that MCAM and β3 integrin play a critical role in melanoma cell migration and invasion, and thus, may represent valuable therapeutic targets for patients with advanced-stage melanoma.
