A yeast-based screen has been designed for temperature-sensitive mutants of BRCA1 in transcription. Transformants carrying BRCA1 with wild-type activity appear as blue colonies (blue arrow) and transformants carrying loss-of-function mutants at 37ยก C appear as white colonies (white arrow). Alvaro Monteiro and colleagues have characterized both synthetic and tumor-derived BRCA1 mutants. Also see Commentary by Jeffrey Parvin.
