The picture displays a representative image of endothelial cell death in an orthotopic human L.3.6pl pancreatic tumor exposed to 100 mg/kg Celebrex for 3 weeks. In this experiment, endothelial cells were identified by anti-CD31 immunofluorescence (red), and cell death was measured by fluorescent TUNEL (green). Celebrex induced strong, dose-dependent increases in endothelial cell apoptosis that were associated with subsequent death of tumor cells. Parallel two-color immunofluorescent staining for detection of Celebrex's target (cyclooxygenase-2) revealed that it was expressed exclusively in tumor-associated endothelial cells and not in the tumor itself.
